I don't need steam deck but I do want more of a balance. Whatever the case I just hope it's a little more ergonomic without sacrificing the sleek form factor. I've gone through so many joycon shit isn't funny. Just take a controller with you on a walk or something, have it pick up on other users then connect to the internet when you get home to see what you've found, idk how technically complex that would be though. Streetpass functionality in the joycon would be cool too maybe idk. Imagine the next smash/mario kart had a customisation element where you can just drop your entire setup over just by connecting your joycon, controls and all. Back then, it was like, woah.Ĭlick to expand.- I think there was a patent for save data to travel between controllers at one point. It’s what we know and expect from the Switch brand. We’re used to it since it’s been such a long time. That was the first time we'd seen anything like it. The wonder and excitement that snapping brought. It’s going to be difficult to match this and create something as cool again… twice. I'm thinking now about what the equivalent of this could be for the new Switch. That design kind of set the Switch a part from these other portables. You don't realise how important it is until you see and experience it. It's very arbitrary and abstract, like the concept of beauty in design. It's just there to provide an additional sensory experience of the hardware to the user. There's no real practical use case for it all. That design isn't necessary when you think about it, but it also kind of is. That is some crazy hardware design that targets most of your senses, so to speak. The joy-cons snap feels, looks, and sounds so good. What I really like is the fact that the hardware itself is as equally satisfying as the marketing suggests. They made a logo and animation out of the clicking. They used the sound heavily for marketing, such as the joy-cons moving in handheld form to dock mode with the grip. The sound of the joy-cons snapping into the main system is kind of iconic. Something that all the other PC portables (as well as some of Nintendo previous consoles *cough the Wii U) completely missed and went over their heads. Watching the January 2017 presentation again because of this thread lol made me realize something so cool about the Switch design and its synergy with the marketing.
